Day 12 - Hiroshima

We caught two trains today to Hiroshima. The first one was a regular train at peak hour which was insanely crowded 😣 It was a struggle to get our luggage on and then we were slowly pushed further into the carriage by the crowd. It was 20mins of hell, I can't imagine doing that every day! The next train was a bullet train which took about 1.5hrs, it was a pleasure compared to the commuter 😂 We left our bags at the Hotel 21 Century which is opposite the station.
We then caught a tram to the Hiroshima Peace Park where we viewed the Atomic Bomb Dome and various memorials to the people who were killed in the atomic bombing of 1945.
From the peace park we caught a ferry to Miyajimar and visited the Great Torri Gates. It was low tide so not exactly the best photo opportunity but we did get to walk out and around it. Its amazing how big it is when youre standing under it. We also walked up the hill a bit to see other shrines and a 5 story pagoda. I think the boys are well and truly over shrines now 😂 Lots of stalls were baking these delicious smelling little cakes and you could watching them being made. I'm not sure what they were but they tasted good!
We came back to the hotel at 4.30 for a rest and then went out for dinner a bit later. We went to a restaurant across the street that had kiosks out the front that you ordered and paid for your meal and then you give them your ticket inside and they bring your meal to you. It cost about $30 and was one of the best meals we've had ☺
