Day 6 - Hakone

Today was a nice easy day. We got up and cooked eggs and bacon for Steve's birthday and got to the cable car by 8.30 and then took the ropeway up to the Owakudani. We could just see Mr Fuji above the clouds. It was really interesting and smelly going over the sulfur pit that has volcanic steam vents throughout. We bought black shelled eggs which had been boiled in a sulfur spring. The legend says when eaten they  add 7 years to your life. Charlie ate 3 so he's going to live for a long time 😄 We then caught the bus down the other side of the mountain (unfortunately the 2nd ropeway was down for maintenance) and boarded a pirate ship that sailed across Lake Ashi. The clouds had passed by then and we had clear views of Mt Fuji. We visited a shrine which was very green and mossy and beautiful. For lunch we popped into 7 eleven and bought, noodles, pork buns and fried chicken for about $10. After lunch the weather turned cold and cloudy so we caught the ship back across the lake and bussed / roped back to the other side of the mountain. We were lucky to see Mr Fuji when we did. For the afternoon we chilled out in our apartment and ate the new kit kat flavours we found today, strawberry cheesecake and sake 😋 For dinner we looked everywhere but almost everything seemed to be closed which was weird so we ended up having pizza and pancakes followed by a beer and some wasabi kit kats we found on the way home 😁
