Today we caught our first shinkasen (bullet train) to Nikko. The seats were comfy and the train was fast and smooth. There were 3 trains to get to Nikko which took about 3hrs all up, the boys whinged a bit but not nearly as much as I expected so that was good 😄 Upon arrival we left our suitcases at the Tobu Nikko Lodge and went for a long walk up to the Togoshu Shrine. And then when we got there we took a long walk up a lot of stairs to the top! It was drizzling with rain but I think that made it eerily beautiful. We then walked a little further (much to the boys protest) to the other Shrine who's name I cannot remember. It was also very beautiful but not nearly as big. Fortunately for the boys a bus turned up just as we were leaving so they did not have to do the hike back. We went to the local supermarket and bought sushi and dumplings for dinner. It was fun looking at all the weird foods. It was an early night tonight which is nice after the last few big days we've had ☺
