Wow what a day, this place is amazing! Started the day with my usual post flight cracking headache which finally subsided by 9 and then we were able to get out and explore, and explore we did! After a hell of a learning curve at Shinjuku Station we finally managed to get to Asakusa and visited the Senso-ji shrine, I really didn't learn anything about it because it was all in Japanese but the sounds and smells were beautiful. The kids participated in some fortune ritual, Lockie got a really good one but Charlie's was quite weird, something about don't get married or buy a house 😂
After that we went to a Sumo show. It was run by 2 retired sumos who explained all about the sport and showed us the training routines and a demonstration. Then they let the crowd have a go and Charlie was the first to get up. It was so funny seeing him trying to push over a massive sumo wrestler, they were so funny and kind and they let him win of course. After the show the sumos sat and chat with everyone while we ate a delicious lunch of fried pork, sticky rice and chanko nabe which is a traditional soup eaten by sumo wrestlers to bulk up. I didn't like the soup 😝
After that we caught the train back to Shinjuku and went to the Kit Kat Chocolatory and picked up four kit kat flavours, butter, pistachio & raspberry, strawberry maple and matcha & kinako. They were all delicious. We then went to the Ninja Trick House but it was booked out so we went to the Samurai museum instead. We got lucky and ended up on a tour by ourselves and at the end they let the boys try on different types of armour and they dressed us all up for a photo.
By this time it was about 5 and although we were tired we decided to push on so we caught the train to Harajuku and went to a hedgehog cafe. The hedgehogs were so cute, and a little spikey, and the boys thought it was awesome. We were hungry by then so we walked to Shibuya to find a restaurant I had researched online called Genki Sushi. It was worth the walk! We sat at a long bench and everyone had their own tablet in which to order food. The food then came to us on these really fast conveyer belts. We ordered little plates again and again. It was so cool and the food was fantastic and it only cost about $30 for all of us! After that we caught the train / walked back to our hotel and finally called it a night at 9pm. 😴
